Cours Saleya Market

There is no better way to start your day then strolling through beautiful Saleya Market, in the heart of the old town of Nice. The vendors start setting up their stalls around 7.30am and in one place you can get pretty much everything to make your French style breakfast, fresh bread and pastry, homemade jams and marmalades, cheese, charcuterie, fruit, vegetables and at one stall the lovely lady might even tell you a name of the hen that laid the eggs you are about to buy. Most of the produce comes from nearby villages or the region Alpes – Maritimes.

The food and vegetable part of the market closes first –  around midday, the flower part around 4.00pm.

Every Monday the market turns into an antique market, so dive into the atmosphere and spirit of French haggling. There are some fantastic items to be found and brought home to remind you of your holidays.

During the peak summer months, the same area becomes a bustling evening market of local crafts and artists. Well worth a stroll before heading to dinner at one of the many restaurants that surround it. Read more on the restaurants in our ‘Where to eat and drink’ guides.
