10 Sep Ironman 70.3 (16/09/2018)
Nice was named this year as the location of the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on September 7th and 8th and will be the first time an Ironman world championship will be held in France. In preparation of this the company has created a brand new IRONMAN 70.3 event to be held in Nice during the 2018 season and will continue in the region moving forward. That initial 70.3 event takes place this coming weekend Saturday 15th and Sunday the 16th of September.
The athletes taking part will begin with a beach start and embark on a loop of 1.9 km swim in the Mediterranean Sea. They will then attack a 90 km bike course which they say ‘is the jewel of IRONMAN France’ which passes through villages and mountains of the region and where participants will have panoramic views of the coast, finally then the 21 km run will include a flat 2 course loop course along the Promenade des Anglais.
What does this mean to visitors and locals alike at the weekend and how to enjoy the spectacle?
The section of the promenade from approximately ‘Opera Plage’ to just past the private beach ‘Plage La Galet’ will be secured behind railings from early in the week with sections for an exhibition village (open to the public) athlete registration office, bike park and eventually the start / finish line.
This will mean slight interruptions to a stroll or ride along the promenade, with the cycle lane being closed to riders and opened to walkers, but really, there is very little disruption and there is full access to the beach and the private beach clubs. Road traffic will of course be stopped on Sunday from an early start in compliance with police security measures.

5:30am to 6:30am : Bike Park opening
7:00am : Start of the IRONMAN France Nice
7:24am : First athlete exit out of the water
09:50am : First athlete finishing the bike
11:00am : First Finisher
16:30pm : Last Finisher, Finish Line Party !
